Micro Finance Uganda
Deposit-taking microfinance institutions are financial institutions that can accept deposits from the public. They may provide savings accounts, loans and other basic financial services. They often serve individuals and small businesses. Commercial banks also accept deposits and provide banking services, but they operate under a different type of licence. In this directory, microfinance institutions and commercial banks are listed in separate sections.
The Bank of Uganda is the central bank and regulator. It licenses and supervises deposit-taking microfinance institutions. It also publishes the official register that this directory checks against. The register currently lists 341 licensed institutions of all kinds in Uganda. Of these, 21 are commercial banks. Being on the register shows that an institution is licensed.
Use this section to find practical details for a deposit-taking microfinance institution. These may include its branch location, phone number and licence status. Branches may be in Kampala, Uganda’s largest city, or in other parts of the country. Check the institution’s listing for the available contact and location information.
